UDC lost the constituency they won in 2014 when the area Member of Parliament, Sedirwa Kgoroba, defected to Alliance for Progressives (AP).

UDC on Saturday unveiled Mozambia Dibe, as their candidate for the upcoming elections.

Different speakers at his unveiling rally said Dibe is a cooperative person who is able to work with all people despite their political affiliation.

“Dibe has been a loyal member of Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and his track record in Botswana politics is known by many,” UDC parliamentary candidate for Gaborone South, Nelson Ramaotwana said.

“UDC national executive committee has made the right decision to choose someone who is humble and respects all people regardless of age.

The party needs loyal people who can stand with it in good and bad times. We don’t want some people who become loyal only when things favour them.”

Ramaotwana said the character of a person speaks volumes in politics and residents of Mogoditshane need to take that into consideration when voting.

He also urged people to go and register in large numbers so that they could vote for Dibe.

“I encourage you to work well with party structures and area councilors so that your campaigns could be smooth,” Ramaotwana said.

For his part, Dibe told his party members and supporters that they should take the elections seriously, since any party could win the area.

“We have to do house-to-house campaigns so that we know where our supporters and people who had registered to vote in the area are. That alone, could help us to snatch the constituency,” Dibe said.

“Let’s do that with respect, without insulting any party leaders whether we differ with them or not. We must be different from other political parties. Our campaign must be issue based.”

UDC vice president, Dumelang Saleshando told residents of Mogoditshane to vote for a party and a candidate who can represent them well in Parliament in terms of their needs.

“The standard of education has gone down in this country and our children are not doing well.

The time is now for Batswana to vote for a party, which could bring light to their lives, and it is UDC, which can do that. UDC is the only party that could address the problems faced by Mogoditshane residents,” Saleshando said.

Dibe will be battling it out with Tumiso Rakgare of Botswana Democratic Party, Bruce Nkgakile of Botswana Movement for Democracy and Sedirwa Kgoroba of AP.
