Record-breaking Galaxy grabs all Top 8 awards

Galaxy became the first side to keep a clean sheet in the final while conceding just one goal throughout the tournament. The boys from the mining town became the first team to win the title twice at the Francistown Sports Complex.

On Monday evening, at the Mascom Top 8 award ceremony Galaxy shone brightest as they won every award on offer.  Galaxy's attacker, Thero Setsile walked away with the Player of the Tournament award beating competition from BDF XI goalkeeper, Tumiso Mashakola and Obonwe Maome of GU.

The left-footed winger scored in the final while he assisted two goals in the team's run. He bagged P50,000 for his efforts while his coach, Miguel da Costa walked away with Coach of the Tournament accolade where he was nominated against GU's Philemon Makwengwe and Nelson Setshwane of BDF XI pocketing P25, 000.

To round off a successful night for the Galaxy stars, Ezekiel Morake became P25,000 richer for winning the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, outclassing Goitseone Phoko and Mashakola of GU and BDF XI respectively.

'Galaxy is a small team, everyone knows that. So our intention is to raise the name of the team and show everyone what we are capable of. It has been both good and bad, but we pushed very hard for this.

My teammates always told me that I am one of the key players in the squad, they kept on pushing me, which is why I would like to dedicate this award to them and the whole Galaxy family,' Setsile told Mmegi Sport after the ceremony. In other awards, history was made on the night as five players walked away the top goal scorer award.

duo of Setsile and Sembowa, GU's Maome and Tumisang Orebonye and Kamogelo Matsabu of Township Rollers had scored two goals each, in the lowest scoring turn out of the competition. They will share the P30,000 prize money with each pocketing P6,000.

Whistle man, Keabetswe Dintwa shrugged off competition from veteran Joshua Bondo and newcomer Derick Marks to win the best referee award to go home with P22,000. Meshack Medupe was named the best assistant referee winning himself P11,000.
