Police Officers involved in road accident

The car was involved in a head-on collision with a private one on the A1 road before the driver lost control. The car later over-turned.

The accident happened in front of the new Riverview Mall Monday evening. Two passengers of the private car escaped the accident without injuries.

Of the six officers that were traveling in the Police van, four were treated for and released with minor injuries. Two sustained serious injuries.

While one was referred to Marina, the other was admitted at Palapye Primary Hospital. Palapye Police Traffic Officer, Assistant Superintendent ,  Ntshesane Rrammapudi confirmed the accident.

“We are still investigating to understand the cause of the accident. Two officers are still admitted in our hospitals with serious injuries, while others were treated and released,” he said.

Rammapudi said traffic congestion was increasing in Palapye, particularly on the A1 highway. He said with the Easter holidays around the corner they expect traffic jam on the road in the coming days.

The road, he said, cuts through the newly built malls and the traffic in and out of the malls has become a headache for other road users.

Additionally, he explained that holidays also present all sorts of traffic problems. He advised road users to exercise patience, caution and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Often accidents are caused by road rages due to impatient drivers in such instances. There are bypassing routes that go into the village and rejoins A1 at different points and we would advice drivers to use those,” he said.
