But during BVF’s annual general meeting in Gaborone, affiliates expressed their displeasure with the deal.

They suggested that BVF should move forward and find other production houses, arguing Baboneng was not beneficial.

BVF president, Daniel Molaodi told the congress that while there have been some issues around Baboneng with other sport codes, there has been nothing major regarding volleyball.

“We are in discussion with them and our meeting is pending where we would trash out the way forward on account of what has gone on elsewhere. As much as we have not had what I would call major problems with them, we cannot ignore what has gone on,” he said.

Molaodi highlighted that during the launch Baboneng mentioned the number of games that were supposed to be televised but fell short.

He said even the games that the production company had broadcast; the quality was not what they expected. He said there is a lot that needs to be done.

“We are hopeful because for us it was not about the revenue we could generate but (the) possibility of a long term benefit, assuming that if they get rid of other agreements like football, they can concentrate on us,” he said.

Molaodi said at the moment Baboneng is working on a volleyball documentary.

“We have agreed with them that if, and when, they start broadcasting our games either league or tournament, we expect a better product,” Molaodi said.

Meanwhile, the financial report was not presented as the treasurer, Moabi Tlalampe was absent, a development that did not go down well with affiliates. According to the 2017 minutes, affiliates complained that four years was a long time without the financial report. By then, it was requested that the treasurer presents the 2013/2014 as one and then 2015/2016 separately.

The congress started late, as clubs initially failed to form a quorum due to non-payment of affiliation fees.

Molaodi warned that affiliates should take themselves seriously, rather than to be seen paying affiliation on the day of the congress using electronic means like eWallet.

“It means we are not taking our sport seriously. I am told even at the Registrar of Societies some of you have not submitted returns. I appeal to you to stop that trend. That would not go well with potential sponsors and they would not take us seriously,” Molaodi warned.
