Trinity celebrates own Golden Jubilee

In a press conference yesterday, church leader, Reverend Mompati Aaron said UCCSA would celebrate its contribution and 50th existence under the theme “Ebenezer. Am I still in the First Love.”

Through this theme, he said, the church would reflect on its achievements and changes as well as assess and reassert its role in society and in the spiritual world.

“We will also celebrate the pioneers of this church and celebrate the Almighty for bringing the Trinity Church and congregation this far,” Reverend Mompati said.

Sharing some of the challenges the church often faces, Aaron said being situated in the Main Mall, meant the church was almost any soul’srefuge in times of difficulties.

“People who get stranded around the Main Mall always come to us for assistance and answers to their diverse problems,” he said.

The church was opened with a dedication service in November 1966 at a service which was attended by the country’s founding president, Sir Seretse Khama, who was also a congregant.

Key events in the build-up to the celebration will include a “down memory lane” history night which will be held within the church on October 7, followed by a community social responsibility event where members will volunteer 50 minutes of their time for community involvement at various places such as hospitals, hospices, children’s homes and other worthy causes.

The last activity will be a commemoration held on November 6.
