TAFIC coach open to offers despite success

The Zimbabwean coach told Mmegi Sport days after helping his side to win promotion to the Premiership, that he feels ready for the challenge. “I have now acquired my CAF B coaching licence, which enables me to coach in the Premiership. I am ready to coach in the Premier League,” Chinyemba said.
“At the moment I do not have a contract with TAFIC. We just have a gentlemen’s agreement. I am willing to listen to offers that may come my way. My goal is to establish myself in the Premier League.” At the same time, Chinyemba expressed his desire to stay at TAFIC provided he is given a fair offer. “I have always wanted to use lower divisions as a spring-board to coach in the Premier League. I have no doubt that what I have achieved will help attract suitors.”
The Zimbabwean has enjoyed much success in the country’s lower divisions. He helped Sowa Flamingoes win promotion to the First Division North in his maiden spell in the country. On two other occasions, he has helped TAFIC earn promotion to the top flight. Two seasons ago, he was appointed TAFIC’s assistant coach immediately after helping the club win promotion to the elite league. “Then, I did not have the necessary qualifications to coach in the Premier League so I could not complain that much,” he said.
After enjoying success in the First Division, Chinyemba has offered some to other coaches who want to help their teams earn promotion to the top division. “There is no time for beautiful football down there. The most important thing is to be organised and play an achievement-oriented game. Everything revolves around getting points. If you play possession football you will get punished,” he said.
“I personally suffered abuse from the supporters who insisted that I use an attack-minded approach. I did not bow to their pressure because I knew what they wanted will not work for the team.”
Chinyemba was nearly shown the door mid-way through the season after falling out with the supporters over his defensive approach.
TAFIC chairperson, Carlos Sebina said that he could not comment much on issues surrounding Cinyemba’s contract.
“Allow us to finish the league. All I can say is that we have an agreement with everyone involved with the day-to-day running of the club even those who volunteer. Chinyemba has done well looking at the quality we have,” Sebina said.
