It’s been years since the two performed, let alone share a stage in, Botswana. They will perform alongside local artists including DJ Sly, DJ Ngwazi and DJ Hapex Guru.

According music promoter event organiser, Lecco Kenosi this music festival takes back local fans down the memories. He said the Legends in Concert music festival debut promises to be even bigger and he could not have picked bigger legends than Mafokate and Malaika.

“It was by people choice that we started with them. After so many years missing in the local scene, they are the perfect legends to kick start the Legends in Concert. It was due to the popular demand. It’s been years since both Arthur and Malaika performed in Botswana. I know they will bring the house down,” said Kenosi.  Nicknamed “King of Kwaito’” Mafokate, 56, shot to popularity in 1994 after releasing his debut album titled Windy Windy with the hit track Amagents Ayaphanda. He has released hits such as Oyi Oyi, Kaffir, Vuvuzela, Die Poppe Sal Dans and Koti koti under his 999 Music Label, a privately-owned company which also produces various top and upcoming artists of all genres.

As for Malaika, made up of Bongani Nchang and Matshediso Mholo, they had taken leave from the music scene, but recently performed together after so many years and indicated that they are working on a new album to signal their comeback.  “I expect them to rock those oldies such as 2 Bob, Theledi and other popular tunes. They might also sample some of their songs from the album they are currently working on. We want a full house,” he said.

Kenosi stated that the line-up is made up of artists that appeal to both the old and younger generations. He said they are currently running a ticket special that will end on may 10.
