GCC ropes in aid for animal control

The company, which has been engaged for the entire month, will control the recent invasion of livestock in the city following complaints from residents that they contribute to incidents of car accidents.
“We have thus far, as a way to strengthen management of stray animals, engaged a company, which will provide horse patrols on a 24-hour basis.
“The company has been engaged for the entire month of September, in which the city will be hosting high-profile activities that will culminate in the BOT50 Independence celebrations,” GCC mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe disclosed. He, however, said that they would use this initiative as a pilot project and it would be continued in the next financial year if the end of activity evaluation proves to be viable.
On other issues, the GCC has been given P14.8 million from the fuel levy by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to undertake road maintenance projects for Maratadiba Road in Village and resealing of Paul Rantao Road in Block 7 and 8.
“Our road network is badly worn out. So far we have been doing maintenance works in most of our roads. A total of 4,787.87 metres squared of potholes has been covered in various roads. A project involving desilting of stormwater drainage along KT Motsete next to Btv circle is 100% complete.
“The project was delayed due to leakage of a sewer line next to the drain, which discharged a lot of grey water into the drains hence the work had to stop until all flows are cleared up,” Thutlwe said.
