First Division South League Goes To The Wire

While the First Division North League was decided a fortnight ago, the other side of the Premier League feeder league will be decided on the last day. Gilport Lions registered an all-important 1-0 win away to Black Rangers on Saturday to open a three-point lead.
The log leaders will now have to win their last game to be assured of an immediate return to the BTC Premiership next season. Gilport Lions have so far collected 36 points with one game remaining. Broadhurst United who are currently occupying the second spot on the log defeated Matebejana 2-1 on Saturday as they push to steal their first ever promotion to the Premier League right under Gilport Lions’ nose.
They have now collected 33 points with one match left. They take on Jwaneng Fighters in the last match of the season which is expected to decide the fate of the two sides in as far as promotion to the elite league is concerned. The only worrying factor on their side is that they have a low goal difference as compared to the log leaders.
All eyes now will be on Jwaneng Fighters who have a game in hand as they take on relegated side, Blue Stars this Wednesday. Fighters were not in league action this past weekend because of their participation in the Orange FA Cup. They were playing against Police XI in the quarterfinals yesterday.
If they win against Blue Stars on Wednesday, they will move to second position with 34 points, two behind Gilport Lions and one above Broadhurst United. They will now wait for the final match against United to see if they gain automatic promotion or settle for the second position, which will guarantee them a play-off against Morupule Wanderers or they finish in the third position.
With their big brothers, Mochudi Centre Chiefs currently struggling and fighting for their lives in the Premier League, Mochudi Rovers on the other hand have done relatively well in the lower division. They are currently occupye position three on the log with 31 points from 21 games.
A win in the last game could see them qualify for the play-off depending on the results of the other contenders, Jwaneng Fighters and Broadhurst United. At the bottom, Blue Stars have already relegated after collecting only 14 points from 20 games.
The battle now is between Modipane United and Black Rangers in their last games to see who joins Blue Stars in the lower division. Modipane are sitting at position 11 with 21 points while Black Rangers are 10th with 23 points.
