Rollers Donate Gate Takings To Kazungula

This was disclosed by Kazungula chairman, Nlakidzi Sitayelo who also hailed the resilience of his players after his team was narrowly eliminated from the FA Cup by the visitors (Rollers). Popa, as Rollers are lovingly known, won the match by a solitary goal. Rollers’ goal was scored by Mothusi Cooper in the 20th minute.
“In total we earned P140,000 tickets sales. Thirty-percent (P42 000) of the gate takings went to the Botswana Football Association (BFA) for various levies. We then shared the rest of the money with Township Rollers. They (Rollers) were entitled to 60% of the remaining amount (P98,000) but chose to take 55% and we got 45% instead of 40%.”
“They did that because they understand that we are a small team that is struggling. We appreciate their gesture. All the money we have earned from that match will help us run the team going forward,” he said.
In total 2, 800 tickets were sold for the match on Saturday according Sitayelo.
“We initially gave Rollers 1, 200 to sell and we sold 1, 700. All the tickets which were initially disbursed were sold out quickly. An additional 100 tickets were sold. We decided to allocate the parking space to people who bought the additional 100 tickets,” he said.
The chairman said that his players played according to plan on Saturday and were ‘unlucky’ to be eliminated from the FA Cup.
“ Our team was strong in various key aspects especially mentally. The players gained more confidence as the match progressed. Even the support from the people of Kazungula and surrounding areas gave the players so much confidence. We also had a few chances were we could have scored but we were unlucky,” he said.
He also said that Rollers players were not at their best on Saturday because they are not used to playing on hard ground. “All in all, many people thought that Rollers will have it easy against us but we knew that we will give them a torrid time. We had prepared intensively both from technically and mentally,” he said.
Ahead of the Rollers clash, the Division one side was the lowest ranked team left in the competition.
Premier League giants, Gaborone United also once donated their gate -takings to struggling Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
