Woman Recuperates From Stab Wounds

Just before the Easter Holidays, Naledi police received a report of a woman whose throat was nearly ripped out by an irate boyfriend after he stabbed her with a knife.

The police have learnt that the victim is still fighting for her life at Princess Marina Hospital (PMH) following the violent encounter.

“The victim is recuperating and has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to the female surgical ward,” Naledi police station commander, superintendent Oagile Bolane said.

“Her now deceased boyfriend ran away after stabbing her and committed suicide. He was laid to rest over the holidays.”

Then, the deceased allegedly stalked the victim early in the morning, and attacked her on her way to work. He allegedly ended up stabbing her with a knife on the neck, nearly ripping her throat out.

A passerby who saw the attack came to rescue her and the victim was rushed to PMH where she is still hospitalised.

“She had multiple stabs on the neck and the knife was inserted so deeply that it nearly ripped out her throat. She is so lucky to have survived the stabbings,” Bolane said.

Bolane stated that the upsurge in murder cases across the country, especially that start as arguments amongst partners in relationships is of concern.  He said people continue to kill others despite their efforts to curb the surge. He stated that as the police they have been conducting awareness campaigns urging people to respect the sanctity of life and avoid settling disputes through violent means, but their efforts seem to be falling upon deaf ears.

“I am calling for members of the community to involve a third party like the police, Dikgosi or leaders when having misunderstandings and avoid unnecessary fights that usually lead to death,” Bolane pleaded.

However, Bolane commended residents of Old Naledi for their good behaviour over the just-ended Easter Holidays.

“We did not record violent cases like murder, rape, armed robbery over the holidays and this is something that should be highly commended,” Bolane said.

“We are pleased that this time around people managed to behave and celebrate Easter Holidays peacefully.”
