The Sneaker Expo, which was held at Phakalane Golf Estate on Saturday, was fused with celebrating the sneaker culture with an education platform for artists, creatives and entrepreneurs.

Various retailers and sneaker collectors such as Urban Soul stores, Cotton Mouth, Brave World and veteran musician Speedy showcased various ranges of sneakers. The workshop part of the Expo was facilitated by Urban Soul stores founder Molefi Nkwete, Hayden Manuel, Gwen Isaacs, Tumi Nthutang and South African businesswoman Farah Fortune.

Attendants took their time to learn much about the sneaker culture as they went from stall to stall learning about the different brands of sneakers and why they were conceptualised.

Nkwete, who is the brains behind the Sneaker Expo, noted that the initiative was to educate consumers about the sneaker products as the majority does not have much knowledge about the sneaker culture.

Sneaker collectors such as Manuel took the stage to explain the sneaker culture to the audience.

However, the shine of the sneaker culture did not leave long, as it was stolen by African Star Comms and Event Management director, Farah Fortune.

Fortune, who is the brains behind branding artists such as Cassper Nyovest, AKA and KO, spoke of artists branding, gave artists advice and steps on how they should brand themselves especially in this era of social media. Fortune also gave tips on how artists can grow from being local artists to internationally recognised brands. Everyone listened attentively to Fortune, as most of the people know her for the brands that she has produced.

Part of the attendants was DJ Izzy, Zizi Panther, Khwezi Did It, Dollar Mac and veteran rapper Fosta Juliano.

Judging by the questions that the attendants asked during the question and answer session you could tell that they obtained knowledge during the workshop.

Part of the Sneaker Expo was entertainment that was provided by various disc jockeys such as DJ Khenzo and Fauz who brought back that 90s hip hop feel of mixing and scratching the vinyl.
