Kutlwano police station commander superintendent Neo Serumola confirmed the incident stating that investigations in the matter are still ongoing.

Serumola said they received a phone call from neighbours alerting them that the house and two cars were on fire.

“On arrival, the police found the neighbours milling around the house with some trying to rescue the victims and their properties. Investigations are currently ongoing to arrest the culprit behind the suspected arson and damage to properties,” said Serumola.

By yesterday, the police did not know who set the house on fire as they were yet to interview the victims who were by then still traumatised by the incident.

He added: “All the victims do not have life threatening injuries ,but they are currently hospitalised at the Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.”

He stated that Block 9 residents played a major role in rescuing the family by dousing the fire before the arrival of the Fire Brigade and the police.

He said that all properties in the living room and the kitchen were all burnt to ashes, but the neighbours managed to salvage properties from other rooms.

The victims a father, mother, daughter, son and two grandchildren who all sustained various degrees of burns.
