The managing director of Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS), Masego Marobela said this during the Flotek pipes and irrigation BOS ISO 15877-2:2009 licence award ceremony last week.

“It should be noted that getting this certificate is one thing and to sustain it is another. I therefore urge you to maintain the achieved level of excellence,” she said.

However, she warned BoBS would continue to monitor Flotek’s performance to the requirements of the standard through surveillance inspections and product testing.

According to Marobela, with Flotek’s product certified they will enjoy the mark for publicity and advertising as indicated in the BOBS Standard Mark Scheme. She said the initiatives are aimed at developing sectors that will contribute to the diversification of growth of the nation’s economy.

Flotek pipes and irrigation first attained its certification licence in January 2017 for its plastic PVC-U pipes in compliance with the plastic piping system for water supply and for the buried and above ground drainage and sewerage under pressure-unplasticised poly.

“This is an indicator and proof that the company manufactures products that comply to standards and in a consistent manner geared towards satisfying customers and provides further evidence that the company does not accidentally produce quality products,” said Marobela.

In addition, she stated that quality is a journey that requires dedication, resources and perseverance and that producing quality goods and services should not only be pursued for tendering purposes but should be inherent in the culture and way of doing things and business in any entity.

Marobela encouraged consumers and enterprises to demand quality products and services in their procurement processes.

On his part, Flotek MD, Vijay Naik disclosed that they currently employ over 550 citizens and intend to increase the number as they venture into innovative plumbing solution.

“As Flotek, we have positioned ourselves as an innovative manufacturer, we are constantly coming up with innovative solutions and products,” he said.

Flotek produces plastic pipes, fittings, irrigation products, tanks, underground septic tanks, underground manhole and inspection chambers.

The company is currently the largest producer of plastic pipes in the region with production capacity of 35,000 tonnes annually of which over 50% is done in Botswana and export 70% of that to the SADC region.
