Toddler dies in car accident

The two were travelling with three other passengers.  The 40-year-old mother escaped the accident with minor scratches.  A 29-year-old passenger is admitted at the Mahalapye Referral Hospital with a fractured leg.

The other passengers were treated at Sekgoma Memorial Hospital and were released. 

The young girl was confirmed dead upon arrival at Sekgoma Memorial Hospital, senior superintendent Agreement Mapeu said. He added that the deceased was at the hospital mortuary where her body was undergoing post-mortem.

Mapeu said investigations were ongoing, and the driver (mother) could be charged for causing death by negligent driving.

“We encourage people to ensure minors are safely kept in the toddler’s car seats when travelling to reduce the risk.  We are still investigating the accident, and the driver could be charged,” he said.
