Khama sticks to sports patronage roles

The national sport associations chose their patrons, and Khama got the nod at a number of codes, including the popular football. He is also a patron of Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) and Botswana Volleyball Association (BVF).
Sport codes choose their patron, normally a high-ranking government official, and Khama was the preferred choice of some codes at the height of his presidency.
Khama’s private secretary, Mabedi Letsholo said the former president continues in his capacity as BFA patron.
“The former president has indicated that he is still the patron of BFA. He is very passionate about sports and he continues to serve in whatever position he is requested to,” Letsholo told Mmegi Sport.
After leaving office, Khama has had a fall-out with his successor, President Mokgweetsi Masisi and was recently removed as the country’s tourism ambassador.
He also quit as Vision 2036 champion, but has stuck to his sports patronage roles. The BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said the association had not discussed the position of patron.
