“It was about time we get it. The pageant, in its fifth-year running,  is not all about pretty faces but also empowering the youth through life skills training and the mainstream of culture through bootcamps, which are held a month before the event,” event founder and coordinator, Lebopo Bulayani said in an interview.

She said this award means a lot to them because they do a lot of work not only for the youth, but also give back to the community in general.

“This organisation is yet to refurbish a house for one of the needy in Rasesa who have been identified and are given the go-ahead by the award chief, councillor and the social work department,” she said.

Bulayani said they would like to thank stakeholders and sponsors through the years.

She said the interesting part is, this year the pageant is open to each and everyone and not Bakgatla only. Auditions are on June 1 at 2pm, at Ntefo Conference Centre in Mochudi.

Bulayani added that they have annual bootcamps that are supported by the Ministry of Youth, Empowerment Sports and Culture Development where they invite  speakers from different organisations.

“We also invite beneficiaries of the government funds to inspire the youth on ways of bettering their lives and taking advantage of government policies,” she highlighted.

Bulayani revealed that in the past three years, camps have been held at Ledingwana in Malotwane, but this year it will be held at the hills of Music, a cultural village in Rasesa.

“Apart from other duties, it is mandatory for the queen to mentor students about excellence, violence, teenage pregnancy, alcohol and drug abuse, which are the social ills on the rise in Kgatleng region,” she said.

She also announced that this year’s event will be held on September 28, at Ntefo Conference Centre. Sponsored for the event are Clicks Organisation, Ntefo Conference Centre, African Grill House, Sinois, Mosha Wellness Spa amongst other companies.
