Public backlash as Tashy's Wedding comp explodes

Tashy’s Royal Garden public relations officer, Tshepo Sebogodi has since apologised to the public about the confusion and misconceptions regarding the competition. The competition that has taken social media by storm, especially Facebook, had brought forth mixed feelings from Batswana.  After the company chose its top 30 finalists, its Facebook page received negative comments from members of the public, who were clearly unhappy with the competition proceedings.

Some accused Tashy’s Royal Gardens of being nothing but a scam, thieves and others called the company by nasty names.

Commenting on the page when it announced its media engagement regarding the competition on Tuesday, one Facebook user commented, “I don’t trust your competition anymore.”

The other one wrote, “this was an exciting concept from the beginning, but now it has become a mediocrity.” “Lo itlhabile ka thipa mpeng. Nobody will ever take you serious. Cheap mind games. Boelang hela ko marakanelong,” wrote one disappointed follower. However, this week a contrite Sebogodi apologised to Batswana in an interview with Arts & Culture.

“We would like to extend our apology to Batswana about things that could have been handled better by our side,” he said.

“There is a lot of confusion and misconception that are going on about the competition. They are written in our page, but we cannot stand back and say batla ipona ga ba bala.”

He explained that the competition was divided into four stages. Stage one started in March where they opened for entries.

“Couples were asked to write their love stories where they have to share with the public where they met their partners. Those with the highest reactions and likes were selected to proceed to the second stage.”  In stage two, the public is expected to vote for their favourite couple through an SMS and the couples with the highest votes proceeded to stage three where monthly cut offs will be done till the awarding the winners.

“This competition’s main objective is to increase knowledge about the venue and its products as well as partners’ products and services. We want to make one couple happy and enjoy Tashys Royal Gardens Wedding prize dubbed Wedding In A Box.”  He added that the runner-up couple will win themselves Lunch In A Box that caters for 100 people and the third price will be Camp In A Box that allows camping for 20 couples.
