There Are A Lot Of Jobs In The Aviation Industry-Khama

Khama said by then, there was not much in terms of the aviation infrastructure development. The President said there is currently a number of aviation projects going on in areas such as Shakawe, Gumare and mining areas such as Sowa town. “I think there is now a lot of progress in aviation infrastructure development,” the President, who is a trained pilot, told dignitaries at the ceremony.
He said there has also been a lot of progress in the aviation business in terms of a number of annual aviation events that take place in the country. Khama gave examples of aviation shows such as the Matsieng Air Show, Gaborone International Air Show, Race for Rhinos and the Makgadikgadi Epic that he said attract a number of people and therefore boost the business sector in the country.
“Aviation is taking off and there is finally something to write home about,”said Khama, who emphasised the need for collaboration between government and the private sector to grow the industry.
Khama said he is proud that there is a lot of training that is taking place in the industry. He assured the piloting graduates that there are jobs in the industry and there must use the opportunity to bring innovative ideas to the sector. Khama said even at the annual air shows, aviation students are normally encouraged to attend to get first hand experience on the industry.
One of the facilitators of the training, Teezzarh Seduke said they had always received a positive feedback from the aviation organisations that employ their graduates. Seduke said during training, safety is always their priority as witnessed by no incidents of injuries from their trainings. He added that for the country to move forward in areas such as aviation, the sector would need a lot of support from the government.
For their part, the young pilots said they were happy to have finally finished their training. They said they are confident and have actually researched that the industry has jobs.
Onalenna Lekwapa told The Monitor that it is a pity that a lot of people especially the younger ones do not know that there are jobs within aviation. She mentioned areas such as department of wildlife, the disciplined forces and the tourism industry.
Another graduate, Tswelelo Mfundisi said she never felt like she is a lady and probably needs special dispensation when going through her training. “There is no difference. We are trained just like men,” she told The Monitor on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony.
“Flying is always amazing and seeing people from above is quite interesting,” added another graduate, Phenyo Rabogadi. The young pilots were trained under the Kalahari Flying Club since 2014 with support from some business entities.
