Kgoroba Calls For More Police In Mogoditshane

In a recent Parliament session, Kgoroba tabled a motion calling for reinstatement of Botswana Defence Force (BDF) patrols to assist the police in fighting crime. On the other hand, Kgathi shot down the motion arguing that the patrols never stopped and are undertaken when necessary.
But over the weekend, Kgoroba took up the issues once arguing criticising the minister and asserting crime was high in his constituency and that the police were stretched.
“Bobonong people did a great job by ousting Kgathi in the BDP primary elections. He is a ruthless man who does not care about people. He told Parliament that BDF patrols are still ongoing. Our lives are in danger as criminals attack us daily. Criminals are at work not just in Mogoditshane, but also in Gaborone and other areas. Kgathi is content with this situation,” he said.
Kgoroba claimed that people complain that police officers are unable to help them.
“Mogoditshane needs at least three police stations. If not, then the number of police officers at our station should be increased four times because there are so many people in Mogoditshane. I met the station commander three months ago. They have one car that has to also service Mmopane, Metsimotlhabe, Mmatseta, Gabane and other areas. This makes it difficult for them to serve us,” he said.
Kgoroba said as the Alliance for Progressives (AP) they would increase the number of police officers once his party is voted into power.
He said they would after 10 years decrease the number of police officers, as the economy will be humming with many jobs created. He said lack of employment contributed to the high crime rate.
On other issues, Kgoroba requested for a primary hospital in Mogoditshane saying clinics in the area struggled to assist people. In addition, Kgoroba expressed the need to educate more doctors with a ratio of one doctor to 25 patients per day.
Kgoroba thanked the government for agreeing to allocate plots to people in Goo-Monang. They have been struggling for years without land certificates. However, he said the process could be slow because there is serious shortage of staff at the Land Board. He also thanked government for the upcoming construction of the Mogoditshane Block 9 road. Still at the rally, AP Molepolole North parliamentary candidate Shima Monageng slammed his former political home, the BDP for hampering development of the country by being corrupt.
“I hate corruption and could not continue being amongst them. I decided to join the AP to be part of those fixing the country and delivering a better Botswana. Every year young people graduate into the streets because the BDP cannot create jobs,” he said.
Monageng also criticised government for allowing foreigners to sell import cars while Batswana are few in the business. He said the AP government would make laws that would allow Batswana to succeed in business.
Monageng thanked the Mogoditshane Sub-Land Board for resolving to give 10 plots to individuals whose ploughing fields would be taken by government to develop residential plots. He said the move was progressive. Kgoroba will attempt to retain his constituency against Tumiso Rakgare of the BDP, Bruce Nkgakile of the BMD, Mozambia Dibe of the UDC and independent candidate Tshepang Mabaila. He won the constituency on a UDC ticket in 2014.
