Choppies saga: 'I'm fighting this' - Ram

The Choppies board announced Ottapathu's suspension to investors this afternoon.

 “This was premeditated at the board.  We went back and forth and it's not a surprise.

 “I'm consulting my lawyers and we are fighting this,” Ottapathu told Mmegi by telephone.

The Lobatse-born retail group is embroiled in a financial mess after it failed to release its full year results last year, citing issues around historical audits and numbers.

The group fell 76% in one day on the BSE last September, before it was suspended from the local exchange.

Choppies is one of Botswana's biggest companies in terms of employment, revenue and business contracts.
