In Makwinja’s place were chief finance officer, Chilesele Malele and business development director, Steven Makute.  Makwinja was said to be attending a conference in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The committee sits every year to examine the books of state-owned entities, who are required to be represented by their heads.

Chaired by Gabane-Mankgodi legislator, Pius Mokgware, the MPs said Makwinja should have prioritised the committee and not the conference.

They also said the CEO should have written a letter to inform the committee about his absence.

“The CEO should have opted to come and account instead of attending the conference. Our invitations should be taken seriously and if not we have the right to take action,” Mokgware said.

BR received the summons to appear before the committee last week but Makwinja left for the conference on Tuesday.

The committee dismissed Malele and Makute and said the CEO should appear with all the relevant financial reports for 2017 and 2018 when BR is next called.
