ViB Mobile to launch music digital charts

These charts will embrace all local genres and will be ranked according to digital downloads. The charts will be updated monthly according to the Mobile Network Operators download platforms, and results shall be released every first Monday of the month in the form of an online show.

Subscribers across all different Mobile Networks Operators (Botswana Telecommunications Limited, Mascom Wireless and Orange Botswana) will be able to download their favourite artists’ song and give them a chance to be a chart topper.

This initiative is meant to amongst many, boost artist digital sales; generate lucrative revenue streams for them and promote patriotism for the arts in our country. Since 2015, ViB Mobile has awarded local artists, royalties of over P2m and ViB Mobile is still encouraging unsigned artists to go on board with them in order to make their music digitally accessible and diversify their revenue streams.

“ViB Mobile is wholly committed to improving the local music industry and the lives of local artists.

We want to enable local artists to generate sustainable revenue via digital streaming and downloads, and that is why we are investing our time, skill and expertise to improve and grow the digital download and streaming entertainment industry,” Leroy Monaheng, chief executive officer of ViB Mobile said. He told Arts & Culture that they are making calls to corporate companies, the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, Botswana Innovation Hub and other interested entities to come on board and assist them to make this initiative a reality.

“In our endeavour to making this journey a success, we are proud to announce that we will be launching a music and video streaming platform soon, both on web and app, which will compete with the likes of Apple Music, Spotify and others,” he said.
