High Profile Names Line Up For GU Job

Makwengwe was appointed as the team’s head coach at the start of the season on a one-year contract but quit after their last league game against Mochudi Centre Chiefs played on Friday evening and said he will not be renewing his contract.
“I thank GU for giving me the chance to come and save them. I also forgive them for opting for another coach. I do not have a problem with that. I will walk out with my head held high looking at the job I did. We had preliminary talks with the management but they had not shown the intention to keep me on the job, I have done my part. I will not talk about my next move until May 31 as per my contract,” Makwengwe told the journalists Friday.
According to sources, the team’s top brass have long decided against renewing ‘Da Phil’s contract hence attracted interest from coaches locally and abroad. Amongst those linked with job are former Township Rollers’ coaches Nikola Kavazovic and Madinda Ndlovu, Moroka Swallows former assistant coach, Zeca Marques, Mike Sithole and Czech Republican tactician Tomas Trucha. Moyagoleele are on a restructuring process following the return of investor Nicholas Zakhem to the team. They endured a difficult season under Makwengwe but finished on a respectable position of sixth with 43 points.
On Friday evening, The Reds finished the season on a high note with a 1-0 win over Magosi.
Bophelo Oaitse’s sixth minute strike was the difference on the day as the Reds fielded a majority of fringe players as youngsters Marc Jansen, Phenyo Lebopo and Zidane Kofa made their full debuts.
At the Magosi camp, futures of the interim coaches, Enosi Mmesi and Innocent Morapedi are yet to be decided as the team will be playing in the First Division league in the next season. A mass exodus of players is expected at the Kgatleng giants as majority of key players are keen to remain in the elite league.
