After attracting thousands of revellers and an exciting line-up last year, the music festival is back and promises to be bigger and better with tighter security.

At a recent press conference, Toropo Ya Muka event organiser, Bonno Ngaka also known as DJ Colastraw in the music circles said that they have engaged a foreign security company from Zimbabwe to tighten security.

He added that security is their main priority and they have piloted in mixing two security companies, Hartsfield Security Company from Zimbabwe and Mohau security, which is local and will be deployed to offer more security guards.

DJ Colastraw said that they have decided to engage Hartsfield because of its impressive experience in the security field, crowd management and control and this would be a chance for local security companies to be able to benchmark from them.

“Hartsfield Security Company can control a crowd of over 20, 000 people. We engaged two security companies so that revellers do not have a bad experience rather would enjoy, feel safe and protected during the festival,” he said. He added that they have also scaled up their security by partnering with Botswana Police Service, which would also provide their services.

When giving events updates, Ngaka said that the event will kick start with a family fun filled day which caters for the whole family including jumping castles for children for only P20 per kid   and a five aside football game set to be played by females and males separately. He said that the family fun day would start at 10 am and end at 6pm opening for the main event.

He further said that the main event would    start immediately at 6 in the evening and end at 6 in the morning with galore of entertainment from local Disc Jokers (DJs) as starters together with performance from local artists.

“During the main event there would be live screening of the championship league final. The multi-award winning local musicians Vee, Han-C, La Timmy along with dancehall heavy weight Judgment Yard are expected to thrill the multitudes of revellers during the festival,” he said.

DJ Colastraw also revelled that ticket holders around the city would get free transport to the venue at selected hours in courtesy of Mahube Express transport.

In his remarks, Itekeng ward councillor Lesego Kwambala stated that one of the biggest objectives of Toropo Ya Muka is to brand the city and create possibilities of turning the city into an entertainment hub.

He said that the biggest event in the northern side of the country also create business opportunities for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMES) and companies through accommodation, food and merchandise vending to only mention but a few.

Kutlwano police station superintendent Robert Mmesi said that their principal job is to protect Batswana and their properties.

He said that they are going to beef up security by   stationing police officers at the event to work collaboratively with the engaged security companies. Mmesi urged the attendants and organisers to abide by the bye-law and liquor trading regulations so that everything goes smoothly.
