Khama honours pioneers

The golden jubilee awards nominees from the first Cabinet according to the Government Gazette are the first president of Botswana, Sir Seretse Khama, his successors, Sir Ketumile Masire and Festus Mogae.

Also on the honour roll are Moutlakgola Nwako, Tsheko Tsheko, David Morgan, Amos Dambe, Archeleus Tsoebebe and Benjamin Thema.

From the House of Chiefs, Khama will honour Kgosi Bathoen II, Kgosi Linchwe II, Kgosi Neale Sechele, Kgosi Letsholathebe II, Kgosi Gaborone II, Kgosi Mokgosi III Seboko Mokgosi, Kgosi Rasebolai Kgamane, Kgosi Mosiiwa Moapare, Kgosi Katlholo Ramokate, Kgosi Theko Kolwane, Kgosi Nkokwane Sinvula, Kgosi Kebalepile Montshiwa and Kgosi Leapeetswe Khama.

The country’s three first ladies have also not been left behind.

The President will also pay tribute to the former vice presidents Lenyeletse Seretse, Peter Mmusi, Mompati Merafhe and Ponatshego Kedikilwe.

The President will also honour first parliament members such as Dr Alfred Merriweather, Gaefele Sebeso, Obed Chilume, Gaerolwe Kwerepe, Kenneth Nkhwa, Englishman Kgabo, Thari Motlhagodi, Philip Matante, Reverend Stephen Thobega, George Sim, Ntwakgolo Sekga, Pulafela Sebotho, Boy Moapare, Motlatsi Segokgo, James Haskins, Bakwena Kgari, Gaolese Koma, Lemme Makgekgenene, Edison Masisi, Mudongo Maswikiti, Dikgothi Monwela, Johnson Nkoane, Goareng Mosinyi and Eyes Reokwaeng.

The golden jubilee awards would also go to the members of legislative council who include Kgosi Letlole Mosielele, Kgosi Molwa Sekgoma, Kgosi Sebata Maruping, Motsamai Mpho, Abdul Chand, Kgalemang Motsete, Leatile Raditladi, Bishop Macheng and Matila Tlale. Other pioneers to be recognised are Professor Thomas Tlou, Christopher Quill Hermans, Simon Hirschfeld, Moleleki Mokama, Gaositwe Chiepe, Archibald Mogwe, Bias Mookodi, Kebatlamang Morake and Zachariah Matthews.
