New Party To Align With UDC

Parties contracted to the UDC include Botswana National Front (BNF), Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and Botswana People’s Party (BPP).
Explaining the dynamics around the newly formed BPF, the recently fired assistant minister of Health and Wellness, Butale indicated that the notion is to avoid vote splitting by forthwith aligning to the UDC.
He said the main plan is for the parties to support each other, by providing requisite support where necessary. The notion here is to unseat the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
He beamed optimism that it is all possible to unseat the BDP, especially when opposition parties can purposefully work together.
He saw cooperation as the main tool that could make it possible for the parties to enhance their strength to easily emerge victorious at the 2019 general elections.
He told a massively attended meeting called by former president Ian Khama at the Serowe showgrounds on Saturday that in the past week, they successfully registered the new party, BPF.
“In short, in the next two weeks, we will nominate two representatives from the 57 constituencies to talk about the party colours, symbol and slogan,” he said to deafening cheers from the partisan crowd.
On June 8, 2019, an announcement for the launch of the party will be made and equally the party will hold its inaugural conference to elect the interim committee to lead the party. “After the conference, we will duly launch the party, issue membership cards and others,” he announced indicating that all those who are willing to join the new party and those who will be interested to be candidates in the coming elections should come forth.
Butale was adamant that he and other BPF pioneers are pressed for time to set all the pre-requisites for forming a new party into place.
He said with rumours flying thick and fast that the President Mokgweetsi Masisi-led regime has a possibility of calling the elections much earlier than the traditional October, the BPF has to hit the ground running before it can possibly be disadvantaged by the current regime that has already shown its hostility in other areas.
His main message to supporters of the new party was to work tirelessly and recruit members to their fold as the party’s strength lies in the numbers of its membership.
