Media fraternity calls for review of belief system

The petition match will start from the Three Dikgosi Monument tomorrow at 1 mid day and then proceed to the Ministry of Health and Wellness where the petition will be handed over the petition to the ministry. The campaign will be held under the theme, Access to Health Is A Right; Say No To Religious Deaths.

“The country continues to lose its citizens due to some religious beliefs that deter members from accessing health assistance. Please support the local campaign by sending your members to join in as signatories to this petition. Together, we will deliver the petition to the ministry for their commitment to review some religious doctrines of some local churches,” said Botswana Media and Allied Workers Union (BOMAU) President, Phillimon Mmeso.

In the recent years religious beliefs of some churches have been on a collision course in western medicine resulting in conflicts with medical practices. For instance, there have been cases where some church members lost their lives because their religious beliefs do not allow them to access health care assistance.

In yet other developments, some preachers have been accused of making their members stop medication or treatment claiming such patients were healed through worship. This has also resulted in lose of lives, contrary to what the teachings of the churches.
