UDC's Lotlamoreng II decides his political future

Although he confirmed that different parties had approached him to join them, he however disclosed that it is time for him to assume his chieftaincy role yet again.

Lotlamoreng left Bogosi in 2015 and joined the Botswana National Front (BNF), a coalition member of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). He took over from former BNF Membr of Parliament, James Mathokgwane. Matlhokgwane resigned under a cloud to join SPEDU in Selebi-Phikwe. During the ensuing by elections, Lotlamoreng easily defeated the ruing party candidate Eric Molale.

The Barolong royal returns to Bogosi after serving a four-year term in Parliament. Expectations are that Lotlamoreng will resume his duties after October this year.

“Ke ya ko tirong e ke e tsholetsweng. Tumelo yame ke gore nka direla Barolong botoka ke le ko teng. Gape ke batla go ya go tsweledisa fa ke tlogetseng teng,” Lotlamoreng II said.

Lotlamoreng who has been linked with BDP admitted that indeed some members of the ruling party have been recruiting him but nothing official was done in that regard.

“It was not true that I made any official comment that I will join them. But there is nothing wrong in being recruited. I am fine with the party I long joined and do not have any interest in joining the BDP. I could have talked to my party members if I wanted to join BDP. I am what I am today because of this party,” he said.

For his party, Botswana National Front (BNF) secretary general Moeti Mohwasa said it is not new for Lotlamoreng II to be recruited since different parties have been doing that at  time he (Lotlamoreng) became active in politics.

Mohwasa said he is confident that Lotlamoreng would not join BDP and will leave active politics when he joins bogosi.

“Every party wants to increase its membership and it could only do that if it recruits new members. It’s not a shock to us that BDP was recruiting Lotlamoreng II. Lotlamoreng is committed to work with Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) MP candidate for the area Dr Patrick Molutsi,” Mohwasa said.

Despite that reports reaching Mmegi indicate that Lotlamoreng II had agreed to certain aspects that BDP had proposed during his recruitment and he was about to dump UDC.
