DJ juggles piloting with music

Please meet the new kid on the block in the local music industry who has blown Batswana away with his immense talent.

Known as D-Axis, the 21-year-old pilot is spreading  his musical wings and also working hard as a pilot. The young pilot is also a music producer and composer. To his credit, he has worked with a number of the country’s renowned brands. Despite having a formal career, the young man decided to pursue his passion in the music industry.

“I have decided to rebrand, using the mask to hide my identity. I decided to do this because I have two career fields in the music sector and being a pilot. I was a ghost producer before.  I will be working with local artists such as Motlha. I will also be working with Nkadilatlha singer Rak O, Young Black and others. On the DJ side, I am a resident DJ at Yarona FM where I work on weekends,” he told Arts & Culture in an interview.

The DJ said he plans to host an event dubbed Electro Fest Botswana in December this year where he will be promoting EDM in the country. His passion for EDM landed him into specialising in the genre. D-Axis said he aspires to make EDM great in Botswana and globally spread his production.

EDM, also known as dance music, club music, or simply dance is a broad range of percussive electronic music genres made largely for raves and festivals.

“I want people to know that EDM is not only focused on dub step. EDM comprises different music genres such as chill step, electro, rave, pop and others except hip hop,” he highlighted.

He explained that he won President’s Day Competition (regional) where he was contested in Gaborone recently. D-Axis started his journey in the local music industry back in 2012 where he started off as a composer. Last year, the young DJ decided to test water and embarked in being a DJ. His mentor is Marshmallow who also plays EDM.

D-Axis has also performed at events such as Masquerade Party at Dros Molapo, Caribbean New Years Eve, African Attire on Fleek, Halloween Fest, to mention but a few.

“People always ask me how I manage to juggle music and my piloting career. Piloting needs time management, accuracy and peace of mind. I am working hard to fulfil my passion in the music career but at the same time I do not compromise my career,” he said.
