Comics Make Audience Laugh Out Loud

The stand up comedy show was held at the Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC) on Friday. The line-up included comedians such as South Africans; Trevor Gumbi, Lihle Lindzy, Zimbabwean, Doc Vikela, Ugandan Salvado and local comics Mawee and Juju Vine.
Local comic Mawee went on stage dressed as a Sangoma holding a five-litre container of Chibuku, and most of his jokes were stories from his past.
“I used to fail commerce like no man’s business at St Joseph High School even though I passed by Commerce Park to and from school on a daily basis. When it came to mathematics I used to pass because I used to sit next to my ex girlfriend, one time the mathematics teacher gave us an equation which said find X, that was easy for me because I went to my ex girlfriend,” he joked.
Since he was dressed as a Sangoma he would now and then shout Vumani Bo! As if he is consulting the audience and they would respond saying Siyavuma!
Headliner Trevor Gumbi spoke of how women tend to mistake him for Trevor Noah, as some women would go crazy during shows by throwing their underwears and bra tops on stage when he is performing only to realise that it is not Noah and they would start demanding them back from him. “I allow my wife to go out drinking and come back home drunk and hold her hair while she is vomiting. Yes I hold her expensive wig while she is in the toilet vomiting,” Gumbi said as he made fun of how women buy Brazilian hair which is cut off from Brazilians’ pubic hair and imported to Africa as weaves and wigs.
Zimbabwean comic, Doc Vikela mostly shared jokes about his home country.
“Do you know why in Zimbabwe we use Pulas, Rands and US Dollars? It’s because we are not yet ready. Have you noticed that different currencies have pictures of late presidents? So we can’t have our own currency coz our first president is still alive,” Doc Vikela said.
Earlier the comedian had thanked Batswana for the hospitality and beautiful roads, “the moment you are in Zimbabwe you switch off your car radio and listen to the sound of pot holes as you drive”.
Doc Vikela went on to give a jab at South African soccer commentators saying they tend to chant for a long time after the team scores in a game, because they are not used to their national teams scoring. “That’s why they say Laduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuma and make it last for a while”.
Trending Facebook video skits comedian, Juju Vine, failed to nail it like he has previously done on Facebook skits. Juju Vine who is used to performing with the aid of a projector came on stage without one and explained to the audience that BOT50 failed to get him a projector that is why he is not using one.
The only female comic on stage Lihle Lindzy came onto the podium and gave a fair share of her funny jokes as she teased black people on how they tend to modify other people’s songs by adding their own lyrics and how white people apply all dance moves at a go, instead of having dance routines like black people.
“South African people tend to confuse brands and products. Toothpaste is Colgate and a soft drink is Coke, ” said Lihle Lindzy.
