Zambian truck driver arraigned for causing death

The state alleges that Coster Thembo caused the death of Pinkie Moseki who was a JCB driver along the A1 road near Tati Siding. He is facing a single count of causing death by reckless driving. 

The accident is said to have occurred on May 1, 2019 involving two vehicles. 

Thembo was driving a white truck with the registration number FVF 957 GP that collided with a JCB bearing registration number B 168 ANZ.  

Sub Inspector Nchochi appearing for Sergeant Seroka told the magistrate that the investigations are still at an initial stage. 

She mentioned that the accused was in transit from South Africa when the accident occurred. 

Nchochi also stated that the two vehicles have to be taken to transport for investigations, as the matter was still fresh. 

She pleaded that the accused be remanded in custody, as the investigations are still ongoing. 

Making a plea to the court, the accused asked that he be transferred to Zambia prisons as he is in a foreign land with no relatives in Botswana. 

He also pleaded that he may be assisted to communication with a certain man, whose name was not mentioned that he might help with his case. 

Thembo told the magistrate that the man he was referring to can help him as he is responsible for the Botswana-Zambia relations. 

Magistrate Lebogang Kebeetsweng referred the accused to the officer who was taking care of his case mentioning that she will help with all the processes. 

She further mentioned that he should appear again before court on June 6 to discuss the issue regarding bail.
