David's exploits at the World Cup did not go unnoticed as she and two other players, Kgomotso Matibini and Fatima Dinoh were invited for trials by Australian teams, but due to financial constraints the moves fell through.

The youngster's dream remained alive after Wood Panthers reignited their interest late last year. Speaking at the send off ceremony on Wednesday, a representative from Basadi Bomme, a group that advocates for women participation in sports, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego hoped that David's move would encourage a lot more young athletes to take up sport as a career.

However, she decried financial problems faced by the aspirants. For his part, Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Fidelis Molao had words of encouragement for the 21-year-old.

'It is upon you as an individual to ensure that you grab this opportunity and make the most out of it and change your life for good. We would not want you to go out there and come back the next day.

You will have to show the discipline that you come from a family and country that is well grounded. You should represent us well, be a shining star so that teams will come here to search for more talent,' he said.

The visibly delighted David has no words, except to assure that she will push for a professional contract for herself and her Dinaletsana teammates.

'I would like to thank all those who pledged and helped, if it weren't for you I would not be going to Australia to represent the country.

I promise that I will make you proud and make sure that all my teammates will join me that side,' she said.
