Kgotlafela was quizzed on how they have been spending their P100 million budget.  She said: “I am not in a position to share that at the moment. We are currently at the implementing stage. We are busy executing the projects we set out to do.  At this stage I cannot say we have spent this much on this and that”.

However, the controversy-ridden committee said they would make the report public. “After the celebrations we will compile a report on how we spent the budget. There are no secrets; we will share the documents with the public,” Kgotlafela promised.

When commenting on whether they have exhausted their funds, Kgotlafela said: “At the moment we do not need any additional funding.  Any assistance of course will be highly appreciated. If ever we need any more funding we will ask for it and you will know”.

Kgotlafela also confirmed that everything was on track and that Botswana would have a show like no other come September 30.  She, however, condemned some of the local companies that had failed to deliver.

She said they would terminate their contracts as their deadline has passed with just 30 days to go to the final day.  Kgotlafela maintained that they sought to only award tenders to local companies in a bid to empower Batswana.  She said with this the committee hopes to leave a long-lasting legacy.
