No charges laid against security guard

“He has not been charged with anything,” he said. The station commander further explained: “These men (alleged robbers) attacked the poor guard whilst he was on duty at the guardroom. There were three of them and he was alone”.

Badisang explained that as a result of the scuffle with the three armed robbers, one of them lost their life.

When asked what type of tools were used during the incident he said: “They had knives and a crowbar”. He was at their mercy and he defended himself.

The security guard allegedly received injuries during the fight but has now recovered. The two surviving alleged armed robbers appeared in court last week.

The men would face charges of attempted robbery. Their case continues next Tuesday at the Mahalapye Magistrate’s Court. They are currently still under police custody as investigations continue.

It is alleged that three men attacked the security guard (names withheld but known to this publication) during the attempted robbery.

One of the men was stabbed during the scuffle and died on the spot.

The station commander said the security guard managed to overpower the men and ran away. He later returned to the scene of the crime with help where the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood.
