The data centre project is at 27% completion and it is expected to be complete by end of October this year.

The data centre is said to cover 81% of the population with 2G technology, 62% of the population with 3G technology and 45% of the population with 4G technology offering greater levels of security, flexibility and access to data and information around the world.

The state-of-art centre will offer the highest level of service availability, with enhanced supply of energy and robust services thereby offering the most flexible and reliable network.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, head technical director, Gobe Mbayi said Orange is constructing a world class Data Centre in Botswana’s technological park at Botswana Innovation Hub in an effort to contribute towards Botswana’s ICT and infrastructure development. “Following the ground-breaking ceremony, which took place last year November, the data centre construction is well under way, and steady progress is being made in line with the project plan,” he said. According to Mbayi, for Orange Botswana to be successful in sustaining growth and providing customers with what matters to them most, it must take advantage of new innovations.

“As a mobile technology company this prompts us to leverage on these rapid changes to fulfil our customers’ needs through continuous innovation, faster connectivity and excellent user experience,” he said.

Mbayi further said that they would construct a base station that will be central to the data centre connectivity.

In addition he said the data centre would serve as a central point of connectivity for national and international connectivity, which will in turn provide world-class data services to its customers.

He further gave reference to the words of Orange Botswana CEO, Patrick Benson, when he stated that he believes the data centre that is being constructed will become a long-term platform and hub for advancement through digital means and that they are also confident in their ability as a corporate citizen to contribute towards Botswana’s technology development.
