Growing use of illegal guns alarms police

Marathe said this when giving welcome remarks at the 2019 Arms Quota Board Raffle Draw, which was held at the Botswana Police Service headquarters earlier today.

She said most of the guns that are used in crime-related incidents are unlawfully owned.

“Most of these illegal guns are used in poaching activities.

We continue to receive reports of stolen firearms and our fear is that they may fall into the wrong hands and possibly be used to commit crimes.

I plead with the successful applicants including those who already own firearms and ammunitions to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Arms and Ammunition Act by keeping them in a safe and secure place,” Marathe said.
