GU coach, Rodolfo ‘Rolo’ Zapata told Mmegi Sport that the club is facing some challenges but that does not stop them from aiming high.

He said the financial situation remains a headache for the club, but added that a club of GU stature is associated with good performance.

“It is not going to be easy but I believe in my players. I am extremely confident that I can make a substantial contribution based on my past accomplishment with GU,” he said.

Zapata took charge when GU was 12th but managed to steer them to a fifth place finish. Zapata said the intention is to walk away with the league and Mascom Top 8 honours.

He said their goals are high but achievable. He said the challenges that the club is facing are a motivation.

“The tougher the game, the more adverse the circumstances, the more excited I get. I love competing and testing my coaching skills and my passion for winning against others,” said Zapata.

He revealed that the side did not have proper pre-season training. He said the club also lost senior players such as Kgololo Kgogobi and Ntesang Simanyana. Zapata said his charges are working hard to reach the set goals.

Zapata made his debut with the club last season. He said upon his arrival, his immediate task was to ‘clean up’ the club.

“Now GU is united. I have to admit that in a team, there are some players who will not perform well. But I will never tolerate unwillingness, the lack of a positive attitude, the lack of interest, or even the apathy of only one player,” stressed Zapata.

New players who have joined ‘The Money Machine’ are relatively unknown, Senyane Refilwe, Joseph Nkgoeng and Tumisang Orebonye.
