The event, dubbed Phikwe Invasion rocks the former copper/nickel mine on June 22 at Makhubu where South Africans, Mafikizolo and Master KG, will square up against local hot properties, Charma Gal, Vee Mampeez, ATI, Bino and others.

This year’s music event organiser, Gilbert ‘PP wa Pimp’ Seagile of Gilbert Promotions, revealed that the idea is to give revellers a night to remember in Selebi-Phikwe. In his view, the experience should not just be about watching cars and bikes racing.

Seagile stated that although it was not easy whom to pick to perform at the concert, the line promises “flames” on the night. He said all the artists in the line-up are crowd pullers in their own right.

“We have gone all out to make this a memorable Desert Race. We want to give people who will be travelling to Selebi-Phikwe an experience they will never forget in terms of nightlife. People are saying Phikwe is a ghost town, and we want to invade it in style,” . It’s history in the making for Mafikizolo to perform at Selebi-Phikwe,”  Seagile waxed lyrical. He said they went all out for a line-up inclusive of all classes in the audience to attract more revellers.

“This is historic for people of Selebi-Phikwe and surrounding areas. First that the town is hosting Mantshwabisi and that Gilbert Promotions and Safe Sailing Company is bringing them the best of local and international artists at a very affordable ticket price,” he added.

He said the music festival gig is meant to spice up the race and give revellers a time to unwind in the evening. While last year’s music festival turned out to be a damp squib characterised by poor sound, organisers have promised a great show.

Tickets for the show sell for P100.
