The Director of Peddys Windows Forum- a counselling organisation, Pednah Mogomotsi confirmed to Mmegi in a telephonic interview that indeed there has been some communications amongst some of the members of BOCONGO pertaining to the matter. She said initially they had not planned to take up the matter with the media because it would place BOCONGO in a disreputable state, hence the donor funding would be compromised.

Mogomotsi however reiterated her position in the state of affairs at BOCONGO by stating that her organisation has provided counselling to the staff of BOCONGO as a result of the board’s decision on the welfare of the staff after they (board) took a decision to get rid of some of the staff by not renewing their contracts, which was made at a BOCONGO board retreat of March this year in Maun.

BOCONGO’s internal feuds date back to February this year, and according to Mogomotsi, anomalies transpired during counselling of staff members who said that they felt displeased with motives of creating jobs for some of the board members post change management process.

Mogomotsi has further confirmed to this publication that she is concerned with the manner in which limitations of authority of the secretariat are overriding. She cites interference from the board members, in particular the chairperson that had resulted in some forms of abuse of power and verbal harassment of the executive secretary.

In some of her agonies through a series of emails, Mabilo openly stated that her boss might be applying open tactics to sabotage her job. She decried deteriorating relationship between her and Motsumi.

“The problems cannot be taken lightly anymore as they have affected the moral of the staff and poses danger to the image of the organisation. Whilst I believe in the principles of providing checks and balances, the level of interference by the Board chair in the running of the affairs of the secretariat has reached unacceptable levels,” Mabilo said in a letter.

According to Motsumi however all is well. “It’s natural that these will happen, the fears are justified and its part of life but all what I can promise the organisation is that the truth will soon prevail”.

“Members want a responsive BOCONGO and they have told us that we have to focus specifically on thematic areas of inclusive social quality, economic justice, democracy and governance, human rights as well as sustainable and natural resources management,” he said further adding that the current set-up of BOCONGO has been having some problems.
