(SPTC), South African Cross-Country Series (SACCS), and Botswana Motor

Sports gave the community an opportunity to appreciate the event.

People had time to buy merchandise from the suppliers that have been accredited to sell, as well as also to appreciate all the other products available for the desert race.

All the suppliers for camping, Designated Start-Off Point (DSP) marquees and outdoor equipment sales companies were at the event to hawk their various wares.

In an interview with Showtime, BTO Acting PR & Communication manager Samuel Lephalo said the activation was meant to sensitise the public about the event.

“This is for everyone who is interested in attending the race. We wanted them to know what we have in store for them in terms of accommodation and merchandise among others. We also wanted to update the public about the overall preparations of the event,” he highlighted.

Lephalo also said the most important thing people came for was the spectator map. He said they usually take time to release the map for security reasons. “We want the participants to enter a race track they are unfamiliar with,” he said.

He added that the main aspect would be the safety of participants and spectators hence the message ‘don’t spoil it’.

“We want people to go there and take care of themselves, their properties and the Phikwe surroundings,” he said.

Lephalo confirmed that everything is in place from spectator points to the roadmap. He said their stakeholders had come on board and supported them all the way. During the event, there was entertainment to keep the public going. There was a performance from local folklore band Sereetsi and The Natives. There were also DJs on the decks.
