Woolworths Donates P1M-Worth Of Clothes

The value of the clothes is estimated to be close to P1 million. Speaking at the handover ceremony at Pavillion Restaurant in Gaborone, the general manager of Woolworths Botswana, Gorata Lekau pointed out that the donation is part of their partnership with GCC, which has been going on for four years.

Lekau added that as part of their CSI project, they have donated clothes valued at over P5 million through the partnership with the city council as well as through their individual stores.

When giving the vote of thanks, Gaborone mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe expressed gratitude to the man behind the inception of the programme, Fire Brigade’s Molefi Kebonye, who sold this idea to the mayor and Woolworths.

Through the programme, Woolworths donates a P1m-worth of clothes annually to the GCC. “I would like to appreciate the commendable effort by Woolworths for giving back to the community,” said the minister of local government and rural development (MLGRD), Frans Van Der Westhuizen.

He added that clothes donated to the ministry will go to all the different welfare offices around the country to be given to children assisted through those offices.
