Maun Man Up For Rape

The State alleges that Sean Coetzee raped a 22-year-old woman on August 26, 2018 at Selepa in Francistown. The prosecutor in the matter, Tawana Kapongo told the court that they are still awaiting medical results from the police forensic laboratory in Gaborone. She also mentioned that there are no prospects of reconciliation between the parties.

When given the chance to speak, Coetzee asked the magistrate if he could be assisted with a legal representative, as he is unemployed.

“The State doesn’t assist accused persons with legal representative if they are charged with matters like rape. Therefore, it is upon yourself to seek a legal representative of your choice using your own expenses to defend yourself against this allegation or you can conduct your own defence,” Dlamini-Ngandu said to which the accused said he would conduct his own defence. Coetzee will appear in court on October 10, 2019 to confirm trial dates, which have been set for November 11.
