Turkey cosies up to Botswana

Speaking during today’s courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Gladys Kokorwe’s office, Buyukkarakas indicated that it has been five months since she took up her duties and she felt privileged to serve in a country that is so peaceful, friendly, and has a welcoming atmosphere. 

Buyukkarakas highlighted that the Turkish Embassy opened in 2014 and of which is a clear indication that the Turkish government is willing and wants to strengthen and increase cooperation between the two countries. 

“I believe that there is a lot that we can learn from each other as countries,” she said. 

She added that Africa is one of Turkey’s main pillars in which contributes to its foreign policy. She also stated that in 2008 the UN declared Turkey as one of the strategic partners in the continent. 

“Ever since Turkey was declared one of the strategic partners in the continent, our institutional presence is growing in the continent,” Buyukkarakas stated. 

She added that they regard a relationship with Africa as a meaningful partnership on political equality and living solutions for everyone.

Additionally, she underlined that Turkey sees Botswana as a natural partner in this region because Botswana is known for being a country of uninterrupted democracy, with political and economic stability and more so that the relationship between the two countries is based on a solid, friendly and problem-free base.
