At a kgotla meeting in Tobane on Tuesday, Mzwinila said vacancies are anticipated to open up this year, adding that this was part of government’s commitment to creating employment opportunities for citizens.

He said more job creation initiatives are in the pipeline in the SPEDU region, which has been marked as a Special Economic Zone.

“The future looks bright for young people in the SPEDU region due to this packed line-up of employment opportunities,” he said.

Mzwinila told Tobane residents that their village would benefit under the second phase of the Economic Stimulus Programme during which four classrooms would be built at Motlhasedi Junior Secondary School.

The legislator’s remarks were in response to a concern raised by the Village Development Committee secretary, Daniel Morapedi who said there was a high possibility that the school would fail to admit boarding students next year due to the shortage of classrooms. Currently the school has four classrooms shared by 12 classes.

Morapedi also expressed concern about teachers’ accommodation, noting that there were only 14 staff houses for 37 teachers.

“This has a significant negative impact on students’ academic performance, which is presently unsatisfactory. The situation needs immediate intervention as some teachers travel to work every day from Selebi-Phikwe. We need a total of 28 staff houses,” said Morapedi.
