Botswana struggles at World Softball Championships

Botswana had a chance to win the game after managing to bring the deficit to two runs but could not get the result they desperately need. Botswana has won a single game (3-0) against Philippines but lost 6-0 tO Cuba, 7-0 to New Zealand and a heavy 8-0 defeat to Argentina.

Tomorrow, Botswana take on the host Czech Republic and they have a mountain to climb on Thursday against Japan.  During the Mexico match, Botswana had some chances to score in the game but could not get the clutch hit to produce the runs.

In the fourth inning, the African champions loaded the bases with one out but could not get a run.

Mexico hung on to the lead after scoring four runs in the first inning. National team coach, Pako Maforaga told Mmegi Sport that they lost composure the moment they conceded in inning one. Regarding the performance of the team at the championships, Maforaga

said the performance has been below par.

“We had a poor show at the games. The desire to win was not where it should be with the players. They were easily rattled and failed to regain composure after that,” he said.

However, Maforaga said the intention is to keep pushing the players so that they end the championships in the middle of the table. He added, the intention is to give other players a run.
