First ever Sports Expo for Botswana

According to the founder of the Expo, Mpho Mooka the initiative will create a platform to sensitise the relevant authorities about commercialising sport in the country and to share ideas of making a living out of sport.

“We would like to have an environment where young people do not focus solely on academics to make a living. We want to show young ones out there that one can make a living out of sports. We want sports professionals, coaches, administrators and the business sector to have a common meeting place.

It is all through such events that we are able to create greater value in our sports which ultimately will lead to better development and increasing professionalism within all sporting codes,” Mooka said at a press briefing.

“The core mandate is to create an atmosphere of engagement amongst those involved with sports.

We have also invited personnel from neighbouring countries who are keen to come and be part of this initiative. The expo would help us share ideas with the people from different backgrounds,” Mooka said.

He also noted that the Expo will be composed of participants from different segments such as sports goods, sports apparel, fitness equipment and gear, sports education, adventure sports as well as sports nutrition.

“We will have exclusive demonstrations, sports clinics and other activities mostly relating to training equipment and services. I would like to invite commercial entities who are interested to come and secure stalls as early as now,” she said.

The organising team also revealed that they have partnered with Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) affiliates and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC). Over 100 exhibitors are expected to participate from 22 sporting codes at the Expo.
