Dithubaruba Cultural Festival committee holds symposium

The symposium, which is part of the build-up activities for the 10th anniversary of Dithubaruba Cultural Festival, will feature presentations by experts from different fields.  “The symposium is meant to unpack the concept, Dithubaruba, by presenting its various aspects such as settlement, leadership, theology, migration, missionary work, nation building and literature,” a statement from the committee reads.

Speakers on the day will include, poet and academic, Barolong Seboni, who will present on ‘Heritage and history as literary sources’, Kgosi Keineetse Sebele will speak on ‘Dithubaruba Settlement’ while Dr. Seratwa Ntloedibe will share the ‘Theology of Sechele 1’ with the audience.

Dikgang Publishing Company (DPC), managing director, Titus Mbuya, is scheduled to give a talk on ‘Reporting on Culture and Heritage’, and Geoffrey Barei, will present on ‘Dithubaruba nation building model’. The symposium, which is open to the public, will have a performance by praise poet, Rabojalwa Keetile, who will also enlighten the audience on the culture and heritage of Bakwena through poetry.

Dithubaruba publicity and marketing manager, Tlamelo Letlole, explained that the poet will concentrate more on Bakwena chieftainship. He further explained that the symposium serves as a platform to enlighten Bakwena and Batswana on the lineage of Bakwena. He noted that one of the speakers will give a detailed profile of Kgosi Sechele I.

In 1852-53 Batswana tribes rallied behind the leadership of Sechele I to defeat the Transvaal Boers. Sechele 1 is said to be the first Motswana chief to convert to Christianity. The two-hour symposium will start at 5pm.
