Train Gig Wows Desert Race Goers

For the first time ever, people enjoyed entertainment on a public train. It was party on the train with Mr O on the decks dishing out the best sets for the desert race revellers. Pictures and videos of the epic blue train fun circulated on social media. Those who missed out on the fun wished they were.
People danced and enjoyed drinks as the train took them to destination Desert Race. The train arrived just after 4am and the revellers were in the right mood to continue the fun and explore sample Phikwe. It is not everyday in Botswana that a person boards a train only to partying until the final destination. Addressing the media just some few hours after arrival, Botswana Railways (BR) Director of Business Development, Steven Makuke said the occasion was a great experience and a start of bigger things to come.
He thanked BTO for bringing the first passenger party train to Selebi Phikwe.
Masupe disclosed that one of their long-term plans was to introduce the country’s first ever tourist train. “Once relevant ministers give us the railway to Kazungula bridge we plan to provide tourists with service,” he highlighted.
For her part, BTO CEO Myra Sekgororoane said partnerships such as theirs with BR were important in tourism development. “People often ask what BTO wants in these events but the aim is to grow them. We expect the private sector to see opportunities around this,” she said.
Sekgororoane concluded by saying the train took away the stress of travelling on the A1 road and was a better alternative for travellers..
