The BGU will host an exclusively women only tournament

The annual event is exclusively for women, in a bid to promote women’s golf in Botswana. “In an effort to promote women golf in Botswana, the BGU decided to reserve this event as an exclusively ladies only event, where we should celebrate women golfers in Botswana,” BGU secretary general, Tumelo Selikane said in a media statement.

The championship is the premier women’s event and the most prestigious ladies tournament in the BGU calendar.

“Events like these serve as a breeding ground for developing talent. The diversity of courses and conditions experienced on the amateur tour are crucial to the development of shot-making skills inherent in our best players. The Botswana Amateur Tour therefore offers opportunities for corporate exposure to the large number of people who play and support the game. It provides an opportunity for sponsors to build their brands and fulfil their global marketing objectives,” Selikane said.BGU said the event is meant to afford women golfers the opportunity to participate in their exclusive national championship and raise awareness as well as promote women sport especially golf in Botswana.

It is also meant to showcase successful Women In Business Botswana (WIBA). The event will raise funds for charity. The tournament will be a 36 holes stroke play championship where the overall winner is determined by the total number of strokes over the two days. The maximum allowable handicap for participants is 30.

“In recognition of the fact that this is women’s month, the BGU has decided to make this event the celebration of the success of women, especially business women hence the partnership with WIBA. The event will therefore feature stalls and exhibitions by successful women entrepreneurs and family fun activities targeted at kids,” he said.
